... that when you spend all day simmering a curry that the thought of eating it just reminds you of handling the raw meat and cutting off all the naff bits? :-) still, I am sure the Spam Man will enjoy it. The weather today is true Autumn. It has rained all day, the first day in a very long time so the roads are insane as you can imagine, all day I have heard sirens roaring along the main road three houses behind me... come on people.
With the rain comes overcast sky, so I have had to use lighting to shoot more of my work, which really hasn't worked... I tried your idea Meshell and put a piece of paper under and behind but there was a shadow cast so it didn't work, will try again tomorrow. At least with two laptops I can load up to one while I work on the other. Speaking of Macs (one is) did you know you can see movie previews on it? I have watched the Sex and the City trailer about 8 times so far.. Don't forget girls, preview at my house, come dressed as your favorite character, I will let you know the date ASAP, bring a plate and a friend if you like!
... and the winner is ...... drum roll please.... the incredibly talented Miss Margaux Lange! OH MY GOODNESS! the irony here is that the only blog contest I have ever won was for one of her/your beautiful pins!!! I think I know exactly which one of my resins to send you... :-) so exciting. Mind you, you are probably like me and don't wear much stuff by other people, just your own work all the time, maybe when you want a break from people going "oh my goodness, you cut up Barbie!" you can wear mine? :-) Speaking of funny comments, I was selling some wing like resins on a chain at the last market and the comment was "I can't buy that, it looks like Tinkerbell has died!" my sister was most amused. I will get your package in the mail to you asap!
Continuing on the theme of beautiful work, I stumbled on the work of Miss Liza Corbett via Sparkletopia. The image (borrowed) left is a sliver of an incredible work that I just love. Go and visit her now! She is an incredible talent and buy something from her Etsy shop. I am going to invite her to do a swap with me. Are you still here? go! now! :-)
PS, thank you to everyone who left comments, all but one* out of a thousand have been so happily received. I hope I have responded to each? I do try to because I love recieving all your comments and emails. They really make my day.
*that one was my fault, Karma bites.
*ah*.. deep breath out... I am feeling wonderfully inspired at the moment. As you know, I am having a resin break, other than finishing up some new works for Miss Ali J and a long overdue commissioned piece. I thought that I was empty but this week has seen a new path open up. I am working on a piece for submission to an exhibition, it might be crap and be rejected but an interesting theme has emerged that I will be exploring, I am really excited. Have a great weekend everyone and don't forget to turn off your lights tomorrow night.

I tried shooting my work today to get it ready for my wholesale stuff. I understand why professionals charge so much. I will try again in the morning with overhead light.
Why is it that when the plumber turns up to change leaky taps and toilets it is when you are busting to go to the loo and he is working on them both!!!! arggg :-)
I can't believe I have nearly reached 1000 comments on this site. I think I should celebrate, any ideas?
Sculpture by the Sea is on again this year down at Cottesloe Beach and I went this afternoon with the family. As you can imagine Miss Em was in her element when she discovered the mirrors and I couldn't resist putting my "oldies" with the sculptured oldies :-) Luckily my folks have a good sense of humour.
I didn't think it was as good as last year but I enjoyed being out in the fresh air. My favorite was the bronze in the last picture. It was really good. Go and see it if you get a chance.
WARNING** angry rant below**
You win. Yesterday I participated in Unwrapped, an emerging designers market. Now I know that the focus of the market was promoted as a way to connect indi designers with local retailers and sales were secondary but really people! just because it is called a market does that have to mean everything is 5 bucks? What do you want? The caliber of the work was exceptional. Every stall that was there was stocked with fantastic different inspiring work of the highest standard. There were some stall holders who didn't even sell enough to cover their stall costs, let alone the time they put into attending. The event was well advertised, the turn out was fantastic, my stall was five people deep at its peak.
Next time you go to an event like this people of Perth, remember those stall holders have paid to be there for your entertainment, don't bother to go, just go off to Diva and buy the same piece of jewellery that everybody else is wearing that some poor child in India or China has gone blind making.
**still with me?**
Ok, to those people who did purchase, thank you. I covered my stall cost and a pedicure for my sister for working the stall for me solo while I was at home throwing up and recovering from a massive headache after having worked myself into a frenzy preparing stock for the last month! I managed to make the last three hours and was thrilled to see the market first hand. Thank you to the locals who stopped by to say hi and to those who couldn't get to the stall to say Hi, your support is more valuable than you realise. I will be seeing a couple of local galleries who are interested in stocking me which is great. I am looking forward to not working with resin for a few months and reclaiming my life before resin. :-) Thank you. ** pics to come thanks to the lovely Feli who was my next door booth buddy!**
Ever wanted to see five grands worth of stock? :-) If I sell a third of this I will be over the moon. I have no idea, all the markets last year were so different. I get the feeling that this one is aimed at a much younger crowd so I don't know that these pieces will do all that well... so I made some others on longer chains like the "young people" wear, yes you Miss Meshell :-)
Sorry, crappy pic but I am so stuffed, you get the idea. I set up a special rig on my drill to get the holes in my pendants in the right spot. It allows me to drill 50 pieces in a matter of minutes, really great. Granted this isn't a long term solution :-) but it worked. I still have a lot of wiring to do and I ran out of the stick on bails :-( I really wanted everything finished by tonight, but I will be ticketing tomorrow and I still have a heap of stuff to find and some finishing touches to my display stand. I was going to have a display that looked like an old dressing table but then I found this round bird cage and a mirror with a rounded top that fits inside it like it was made to go together, on the verge in two different suburbs' "bring out your dead" rubbish pick ups! So I have made a different stand all together, it is still in bits. I promise I will take lots of pics of it set up on Sunday. See you locals Sunday!
Market prep is going really really well. I keep waiting for the wheels to fall off but so far so good. I think the reason behind that is that I have decided to take a break from resin until September when the next round of markets starts again. I have learned so much just in the last month alone although I fear I need a vacuum chamber if I am going to pursue these faceted molds. You can see here, one out of four casts work due to bubbles. It makes these pieces impossibly expensive :-) don't expect to see any for sale anytime soon. I have plenty of non faceted ones available so come down and see Jayde, Ali J, Feli and I on Sunday!
I have been busy! I am finally on a roll. I am casting 6 pieces a day, I could do 12 if I was better organised, but then I wouldn't be me would I :-) I have a real production line going so wholesaling is getting closer. I had a brainwave the other night and today I cast the mold for it so fingers crossed I can show you in a couple of days time. Of course the downside to all this work is that the house looks like.. I can't put it into words actually :-) but I will be cleaning it up tomorrow I promise!
Thanks for all the lovely encouraging emails and comments, they really make my day. Have I mentioned that this work will be available at a Designer Market on March 16? email me if you want details.
